just hold it up to your lips it should be red enough so that it seems almost vivid red in contrast to skin tone

Just hold it in front of your lips and look in a mirror. You should be able to tell if it looks ';off'; or not. A truly good lip color should make your lips look flushed, like you've just kissed someone. It's supposed to be an enhancement of your natural lip color, not something that makes you look like a hooker.
if you have darker skin, something like red would match the skintone.
if you want something that will exactly match your lips then wear a clear lipgloss. but if you mean a lipstick that will suit you then


there are sites that can offer you some tips and advice but the only accurate way tell you that your lipstick will suit you is to try the lipstick on and see it your self.

I bet there are plenty of sites.You need to first find out if you are a spring,fall,summer,winter skin tone? Most blonde's with freckles and light skin go with the soft pinks,mauve's,corals. Winters would be dark skinned,and go withe really dark type colors.Like Chocolate...So if you get a skin assessment by even an Avon lady can do that.
